MonaLisa Touch® Procedure

As women age and go through events like childbirth, vaginal discomfort can begin to occur. Other symptoms, like dryness, burning, pain during sex, or urinary incontinence, can also become an ongoing issue. Understandably, it can have a negative effect on your sex life as well as your day-to-day comfort. Is vaginal discomfort a personal struggle for you? An innovative new procedure called MonaLisa Touch® can help. This is what you should know about this procedure and how Dr. Amaya can help.

What is MonaLisa Touch?

The cutting-edge technology behind the MonaLisa Touch procedure is possible through laser vaginal rejuvenation. This technique stimulates the collagen contained in your vaginal walls in order to restore and rehydrate tissues. In turn, this improves dryness, fragility, and loss of elasticity in the vagina.

Dr. Amaya uses SmartXide2, a laser system designed and manufactured by DEKA with exclusive features that make treatment safe and effective. A probe is inserted into the vagina to deliver two-part pulse targets. These can target surface tissues and deep tissues in order to promote total vaginal revitalization.

It’s currently one of the most effective non-surgical and non-pharmacological solutions for preventing and treating common vaginal issues that many women suffer from during menopause and after childbirth.

What to expect

MonaLisa Touch is a simple and painless in-office procedure that only takes five minutes or less. There is no need for downtime after your visit.

Depending on the severity of your symptoms, one to three treatments are usually sufficient. If you require more than one, you will generally need to wait 40-60 days between sessions. Dr. Amaya will evaluate and recommend the best treatment plan for your specific case.

Most women report temporary side effects, such as slight redness or swelling in the area. There may be minimal localized discomfort immediately following the laser treatment and during the first few days after the session.

During the healing period, you may need to avoid some activities, such as taking a hot bath, physical exercise, and sexual intercourse. Dr. Amaya can give you detailed instructions for a quick and safe recovery.

After a three-session treatment, the results can last for at least one year. This will depend on the severity of your symptoms, as well as your age and lifestyle. After one year, Dr. Amaya may suggest an annual maintenance appointment.

How can the MonaLisa Touch procedure help me?

From the very first treatment, you can expect tissue regeneration that can restore the vaginal tone and elasticity you once had. Most women report a significant reduction in dryness, burning, pain during intercourse, and urinary incontinence.

After three treatments, 76% of women reported improvement in dryness, while 90% confirmed improvement in laxity. Laxity, also referred to as “loose vagina,” refers to a condition where the diameter of the vagina has increased. This is often a result of childbirth or tissue relaxation due to aging. The CO2 laser used by MonaList Touch can treat cases of laxity due to mucosal tone loss. However, it’s important to note that some issues of laxity can be a symptom of prolapse, which is not treatable through the MonaLisa Touch procedure.

MonaLisa Touch is an ideal option for those who are looking for less invasive options than other common surgical procedures that are available.

If you’ve suffered from unpleasant vaginal symptoms, MonaLisa Touch could work for you. Your symptoms may be due to:

Menopause
Childbirth
A hysterectomy
Cancer treatment
No matter the reason, MonaLisa Touch can have a truly immediate and substantial impact on your overall quality of life.
