Mariana Amaya, MD
Dr. Amaya is an Arizona native, born and raised in Yuma County. Growing up in a border community, she recognized the need for bicultural-bilingual physicians, which sparked her initial interest in medicine. She speaks English and Spanish. Once enrolled in medical school, she was immediately drawn to women’s health issues and pregnancy.
Dr. Amaya graduated from the University of Arizona, Summa Cum Laude, with a Bachelor of Science in community health education. She then completed medical school at the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Tucson, Arizona. As a medical student, she was recognized with the Humanism in Medicine Award and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society Award.
Knowing she wanted to practice in Arizona, Dr. Amaya elected to complete her residency in obstetrics and gynecology with the Phoenix Integrated Residency Program in Obstetrics & Gynecology at St. Joseph’s Hospital & Medical Center and Valleywise Medical Center. Her training program has since been renamed Creighton University Residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology.
Dr. Amaya is certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is a fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She is involved with medical student and graduate student training via her appointments as a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of Arizona College of Medicine in Phoenix and as an Assistant Clinical Professor with Creighton University School of Medicine-Phoenix campus.
Dr. Amaya spends her time away from work with her husband, a family physician, and their three children. Like many of her patients, Dr. Amaya works hard to balance her career while raising a family.
